SFT's prize

The Swedish Society of Toxicology Annual Award for best PhD Thesis in Toxicology

Apply for SFT's prize 2021

The Swedish Society of Toxicology (SFT) aims to promote the development of new knowledge within the field of toxicology, work for the dissemination of toxicological knowledge and information, and work for an expanded and scientifically based practical application of toxicological knowledge in society. In accordance with this, from 2021 onwards, SFT will annually award early-career toxicologists, that through their thesis work, have significantly contributed to the field of toxicology, and in their research have shown good initiative and scientific maturity.

The 2021 prize is now announced. PhD theses within the scientific field of toxicology that have been defended at a Swedish University during the period January 1st 2021 to December 31st 2021 are qualified to compete for the award. The purpose of the award is to honor the efforts that PhD students make and highlight the dissertations in toxicology that are particularly meritorious. The prize is a scholarship that this year is 15,000 SEK. The winner will be announced at the annual meeting during spring 2022. The award ceremony will take place at a later time when the winner also presents their research.

During the assessment of the PhD theses, particular consideration is given to the following criteria:

  1. Scientific quality and novelty
  2. Ability to communicate science and independence
  3. Scientific importance and applicability

The applicant must be a member of SFT and should, in addition to the complete thesis (kappa/summary and all papers, in pdf format), submit a motivation letter describing why the thesis should be awarded. The motivation must be written by the applicant. Use the intended application form to describe the thesis with regard to novelty, scientific importance and applicability (maximum 3 pages). The doctoral student's contributions and independence should also be stated (even if the contribution to specific papers is mentioned in the thesis, it must be described in the motivation letter). Collaboration with other research groups, as well as main and assistant supervisors must be stated. The applicant must justify how relevant the toxicology subject is in the thesis, as the award specifically is for the best dissertation in toxicology. Name the file as " Name applicant_Motivation letter" and email your application to sft@toxikolog.se no later than 31 January 2022.

If too few relevant applications are received, they will be assessed in the subsequent year. Questions about the award should be sent to SFT's chairman Oskar Karlsson (oskar.karlsson@aces.su.se).
